Intel Unveils Dual‑Memory Raptor Lake Refresh for LGA1700

Intel is set to re‑release its Raptor Lake silicon under a new LGA1700 line, the same die that powers the 14th‑gen Core desktop CPUs. The refreshed chips will support both DDR4 and DDR5, giving builders and gamers a dual‑memory choice that should ease the ongoing DDR5 crunch for the future.

Intel plans to name the series after the Core 7 family, dropping the Ultra label because the new sockets lack an integrated NPU. Top models may cap at a 8P+16E core mix—eight Raptor Cove P‑cores with 2 MB L2 each and four Gracemont E‑cores with 4 MB L2 and performance in gaming.

The processor will expose 20 PCIe lanes: 16 Gen 5 and four Gen 4, while sharing 36 MB of shared L3 cache. With DDR4/DDR5 support, motherboard makers can ship hybrid boards, allowing users to upgrade to DDR5 later without a new socket and budget builds for enthusiasts and pros in the market.

By pricing the high‑end Raptor Lake Refresh at a level similar to its Core Ultra 7 270K Plus sibling, Intel hopes to attract gamers who need a powerful but affordable upgrade path. The dual‑memory capability ensures compatibility across existing DDR4 platforms while still offering future DDR5 performance for 2025 and an attractive price point.
