Europe has unveiled Euro-Q-Exa, its first quantum computer deployed in Germany at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre in Garching, Munich. The system represents a significant milestone in Europe's effort to build sovereign digital infrastructure, combining quantum computing capabilities with existing high-performance computing resources.

Based on IQM's Radiance platform, Euro-Q-Exa features 54 superconducting qubits and is designed to enable European researchers to build, operate, and scale quantum capabilities locally. The system is not just about providing access but developing hands-on expertise within Europe, supporting the creation and retention of intellectual property for algorithms and applications developed on the platform.

Euro-Q-Exa strengthens Europe's quantum ecosystem by enabling local capability building, European IP creation, deep HPC-quantum integration, and ecosystem collaboration. The system will be complemented by a second, more powerful 150-qubit system by the end of 2026, expanding Europe's operational quantum capacity. This approach allows quantum technologies to mature within operational research environments and supports their transition toward sustained scientific and industrial use.
