Blackmagic Design has just dropped DaVinci Resolve 21, an update that dramatically expands the post-production suite by introducing a dedicated Photo page. This new section finally allows colorists and photographers to leverage Resolve’s industry-leading color tools—like node-based grading and power windows—directly on still images. The integration means professional photographic refinement can now seamlessly live alongside high-end video workflows.

Beyond photo editing, Resolve 21 packs in a raft of AI enhancements powered by the DaVinci Neural Engine. Users gain tools like IntelliSearch for rapid media culling, CineFocus for depth-of-field manipulation, and various facial refinement options, including the AI Face Reshaper and Age Transformer. These additions aim to automate repetitive tasks that traditionally bogged down post-production timelines.

Audio and graphics also received attention, with Fairlight folders introduced for better track management and the Krokodove toolset adding over 70 new Fusion assets. Furthermore, native support for OGraf HTML graphics and Lottie animations simplifies motion graphics integration. The public beta is immediately available for download from the Blackmagic Design website, inviting immediate user testing.

This version solidifies Resolve’s bid to become a true end-to-end creative hub, competing directly with solutions that traditionally kept photo and video finishing separate. The emphasis on AI automation across both stills and motion suggests a clear direction for post-production software development.
