MIT spin-off Brelyon has unveiled the Ultra Reality Mini at CES 2026, a groundbreaking display that challenges the dominance of headset-based XR. This new model is a more compact and affordable iteration of their Ultra Reality line, specifically designed to eliminate the discomfort associated with wearing face-mounted devices. The core innovation is a computational display that projects a 55-inch virtual image with 86° field of view from a physical 16-inch aperture, creating a sense of 3D depth without the need for VR or AR headsets.

A unique feature is the integrated 'acoustic wings,' which provide headphone-free spatial audio and actively dampen ambient noise. CEO Barmak Heshmat explains that the product balances immersion with practicality, compressing the experience of the largest monitor available into a compact form factor. By addressing user aversion to facial wearables, Brelyon is positioning this technology as a viable alternative for immersive work and entertainment, signaling a major shift in the display industry toward headset-free virtual reality.
