A new California-based startup, Bolt Graphics, has unveiled its ZEUS architecture, claiming a 2.5x performance lead in path tracing over the RTX 5090. This is significant as it challenges the dominance of established players like NVIDIA by promising extreme performance with remarkable efficiency. The ZEUS prototype uses a unique RISC-V command processor that doubles as a CPU and an in-house SIMD architecture, completely avoiding traditional GPU acronyms.

The card features a PCI-Express 5.0 interface and supports massive memory configurations up to 384 GB via LPDDR5X and DDR5 SODIMM slots. Perhaps most surprising is its low power consumption, drawing only 225 W from a single 8-pin PCIe connector, despite its enterprise-grade 400/800 Gbps networking and BMC/IPMI support for server clusters. This efficiency could disrupt the high-performance computing and render farm markets if the claims hold true.
