Awekeys Unveils Shine-Through Metal Keycaps for Mechanical Keyboards

Awekeys is developing a new line of metal keycaps featuring shine-through lettering, building on their previous low-profile metal keycap launch. The company shared prototype images on Reddit after months of design work, revealing they've already generated 6.8 kg of metal waste through failed attempts to perfect the manufacturing process.

The keycaps will likely use cupronickel material like their previous offerings, combined with transparent plastic elements that allow RGB lighting to pass through without creating rough letter cutouts on the surface. Awekeys is considering multiple printing orientations including north-facing, south-facing, and side-printed characters, though not all variants will necessarily reach production.

These shine-through metal keycaps will almost certainly be Cherry profile only, targeting the most popular keycap format among keyboard enthusiasts. Compatibility appears limited to full-height MX-style mechanical switches, with a small chance of low-profile variants. While other companies produce individual metal keycaps, Awekeys aims to deliver complete sets that remain uncommon in the market.

The project remains in early development stages, with no confirmed timeline or pricing information available yet. Awekeys is gathering community feedback through Reddit's group buy interest check before finalizing kit options and design choices.
