Prime Video's new Spider-Noir series delivers on its promising trailers, successfully blending fast-paced storytelling with gorgeous cinematography and sharp dialogue. The result is a compelling homage to 1930s noir that stands apart from typical superhero fare.

Marvel Comics launched its noir imprint in 2009, reimagining familiar characters in Depression-era settings. Nicolas Cage previously voiced Spider-Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Across the Spider-Verse (2023), making his return to the role here a natural extension of that animated success.

Rather than Peter Parker, co-showrunner Oren Uziel chose Ben Reilly as the protagonist—a hard-boiled PI who retired his Spider identity after losing his fiancée five years prior. Cage channels classic film noir detectives while navigating a corrupt 1930s New York controlled by mob boss Silvermane, played by Brendan Gleeson.

The series introduces superhuman threats including pyrokinetic criminal Addison and Flint Marko's transformation into Sandman, grounding fantastical elements in the gritty period setting.
