Nyxi's new Hyperion 3 controller for the Switch 2 addresses a key ergonomic flaw in Nintendo's official Joy-Cons. The original thin Joy-Con 2 design offers no extended grip, making handheld play awkward. Nyxi's third-party solution provides a magnetic connection to the console tablet, a first for Switch 2 accessories, and promises a more comfortable experience.

Beyond magnetic attachment, the Hyperion 3 features gyro controls, turbo support, programmable rear buttons, and Hall Effect joysticks to prevent stick drift. It can also wake the console wirelessly. However, this comfort comes at a premium: the controller retails for $170, placing it in the same price class as high-end controllers like the Xbox Elite 2.

The high cost highlights a gap in the Switch 2 accessory market. For players who find the official Joy-Cons cramp-inducing, the Hyperion 3 is currently the only magnetic, fully-featured alternative. Its March 1 release will test whether gamers are willing to pay significantly more than Nintendo's $100 Joy-Con price for a better handheld experience.
