Brad Bird, the acclaimed director behind The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille, is returning with a new animated feature, Ray Gunn, set to premiere on Netflix in December. The film, described as a neo-noir science-fiction mystery, recently received its official trailer, showcasing retro-futuristic elements like flying cars, jet packs, laser guns, aliens, and a sultry femme fatale. Bird first conceived the idea for Ray Gunn 30 years ago, with the script co-written by Matthew Robbins, but it remained shelved at Warner Brothers while Bird worked on other projects.

The inspiration struck when Bird heard the B-52s' "Planet Claire" and mistook it for Henry Mancini's theme from Peter Gunn. As a fan of film noir and hard-boiled detectives, Bird created Ray Gunn, a futuristic detective, blending comedy and action into the genre. The film promises a unique take on the noir tradition, and fans are eagerly awaiting its release.
