After years of constant change, Mystery Science Theater 3000 is returning to its roots with a new Kickstarter campaign that has already raised $1.82 million. The revival brings back original creator Joel Hodgson alongside Mike Nelson and other classic performers for a limited four-episode run scheduled for release by the end of 2026.

This new iteration represents a significant shift from the show's recent Netflix revival, which featured entirely new casts and writers. The current project is a collaboration with RiffTrax, Nelson's successful riffing venture, and marks the first production under new rights holders Radial Entertainment. Hodgson sold the MST3K IP to Radial earlier this year after reacquiring it from Jim Mallon in 2015.

The Kickstarter's massive success suggests fans are eager for this nostalgic return to form. While the Netflix revival struggled with crowdfunding fatigue and constant cast changes, this old-school approach taps into the show's original appeal. For longtime viewers who grew attached to specific eras of performers, this reunion offers a chance to revisit the classic MST3K formula that made the cult series a beloved institution.
