Mobileye Launches Standalone US Robotaxi Service

Mobileye is launching its own robotaxi service in the United States, marking a significant expansion beyond its traditional supplier role. The company has developed a new Super Vision ADAS system that integrates cameras and radar sensors, already adopted by automakers including Porsche and Polestar for advanced driver assistance features.

Mobileye previously partnered with Volkswagen Group's MOIA to create a commercial robotaxi based on the VW ID. Buzz minivan. Last year, the company announced plans to collaborate with Lyft on deploying robotaxis in Dallas, targeting deployment as early as this year. These partnerships form the foundation for Mobileye's broader autonomous mobility strategy.

CEO Amnon Shashua emphasized that this initiative extends rather than replaces existing partnerships. While Mobileye remains committed to supplying its Drive technology to automakers and mobility providers, operating its own fleet provides direct operational experience and demonstrates the full capabilities of autonomous systems.

The company plans to start with 100 robotaxis and scale to approximately 17,000 vehicles within five years if initial deployments succeed. This aggressive scaling reflects Mobileye's confidence that the robotaxi market represents the next major transformation in transportation, offering consumers driverless mobility while competing with Waymo and Cruise in the nascent autonomous taxi space.
