Lawmakers demand FTC probe of Trump Mobile phone delays

Six months after Trump Mobile opened preorders for its T1 phone, customers still await delivery. The company charged a $100 refundable deposit, promising a $499 device originally billed as “made in the United States.” By late June 2025 the claim vanished, and the website now lists only the deposit with no shipment date.

Senator Elizabeth Warren and ten fellow Democrats sent a letter to FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson, demanding a probe into alleged false advertising and deceptive practices by Trump Mobile. The lawmakers argue the case tests the agency’s independence after President Donald Trump asserted control over traditionally autonomous regulators, a claim Ferguson has echoed.

FTC officials have not yet replied, but the agency must decide whether to treat Trump Mobile like any other violator of consumer‑protection law. A ruling could trigger civil penalties for breaching the FTC’s “Made in USA” standards and force refunds for thousands of preorders. Observers will watch the February 15 deadline for a formal response.
