Google has launched Nano Banana 2, its latest AI image model, now available across the Gemini ecosystem. This release, formally named Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, directly replaces both the standard and Pro versions of the previous Nano Banana. The move consolidates Google's image generation offerings under a single, more capable model.

Nano Banana 2 promises Pro-level quality with the speed of the Flash variant. Key upgrades include enhanced world knowledge from the Gemini 3.1 LLM for better object fidelity and infographic accuracy. It can maintain identity consistency for up to five characters and render 14 different objects within a single workflow, alongside support for resolutions up to 4K widescreen.

This unilateral replacement signals Google's confidence in the model's improvements over its predecessors. By making Nano Banana 2 the sole image generator in Gemini, Search, AI Studio, and Vertex AI, the company is aggressively pushing its latest AI capabilities to all users and developers immediately, without a transition period for older variants.
