Intel's 14A Node to Match TSMC's A14 Within 5%

Intel's Foundry chief Naga Chandrasekaran told investment bank Key Banc Capital Markets that Intel expects its 14A node to be within 5% of TSMC's A14 node, with both competing in the same sector. The 'within 5%' metric could indicate advantage, disadvantage, or a mix across transistor frequency, power efficiency, and density measurements.

Intel plans 14A risk production in the second half of 2027, with high-volume production in 2028. The company has processed tens of thousands of 14A wafers in pilot runs, focusing on yield improvements before risk production. The 14A node targets 15-20% performance gains at same power or 25-35% power reduction at equal performance, plus up to 30% density improvement.

TSMC's A14 timeline includes pilot production this month, risk production in 2027, and mass production in 2028. Compared to its N2 2 nm node, A14 offers up to 15% higher speeds at same power or 30% power reduction at same frequency, with 20% logic density increase.
