Leicestershire County Cricket Club are appealing a 27-point deduction and £5,000 fine imposed by the Cricket Discipline Panel (CDP) for breaching ECB Pitch Regulations during their County Championship match against Glamorgan at Uptonsteel Grace Road from August 20-23. The pitch was rated 'poor' after match referee Ian Ramage logged 43 examples of uneven bounce, noting an unusual surface with a green middle (16mm grass) and bare ends (3mm). Leicestershire won the low-scoring match by 42 runs.

Chief executive Emma White stated the club respects the process but has "serious concerns" about the decision and sanctioning procedure. The panel dismissed as a mitigating factor the club's claim that filming for a Bollywood biopic of former India captain Sourav Ganguly prevented the pitch from being covered for eight hours in bright sunshine four days prior. The panel found Leicestershire did not intend the pitch to play unevenly and this was not cheating, but their preparation approach was unreasonable.

The club has instructed sports law barrister Craig Harris of Furnival Chambers to represent them. White praised groundsman Callum Lewin and the grounds team's "outstanding record" and urged supporters to treat all involved with courtesy. Leicestershire recently boosted their Division One survival hopes with a five-wicket win over Hampshire.
