Kylian Mbappé refused to criticise referee Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias despite Real Madrid's 2-1 derby defeat to Atlético Madrid, admitting the official made "mistakes." Madrid coach José Mourinho claimed Ortiz Arias failed to show "two clear red cards" for first-half challenges by Kang-in Lee and Cristian Romero, bringing printouts to his news conference.

The result left Madrid six points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona with seven games played, leaving Mourinho under pressure. "I don't think I've ever been a player who talks much about referees," Mbappé told Diario AS. "Referees are human, they make mistakes -- and those were mistakes -- but I don't want to get into that."
