Roy Hodgson returns to management at 78 after being appointed interim head coach at Bristol City, replacing Gerhard Struber until the end of the season. The experienced manager has been out of work since leaving Crystal Palace in February 2024 and previously managed Bristol City for four months in 1982, winning just three matches.

Hodgson's extensive career includes managing England at two European Championships and the 2014 World Cup, plus spells with Liverpool, Fulham and Inter Milan. Bristol City sit 16th in the Championship, without a win since Feb 24, and now trail sixth place by 12 points despite holding an 11-point cushion above the relegation zone.

The veteran coach faces an immediate challenge when his side visits Charlton Athletic on April 3, exactly 44 years after his last match in charge. With seven games remaining, Hodgson must quickly reverse a poor run of form that cost Bristol City any hope of reaching the playoff places this season.
