The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and quarterback Baker Mayfield have reached a three-year contract extension worth $165 million, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The deal keeps Mayfield in Tampa through the 2029 season and averages $55 million per year, tied for third highest in the league. Mayfield and the Bucs had broken off talks before training camp but reunited this past weekend to finalize the agreement. "Baker's arrival marked an important new chapter for our organization... this contract -- the largest in the history of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- reflects our belief in Baker," said Bucs owner Joel Glazer.

The extension follows Mayfield's two straight NFC South titles and a 2023 playoff victory, with the quarterback previously rejecting a two-year, $50 million offer that would have ranked him 13th in salary among NFL quarterbacks. The deal was reached after Mayfield set a training camp deadline for negotiations and expressed desire for long-term commitment. "You're always comfortable with a great player and you make things work," said general manager Jason Licht. The Bucs previously signed journeyman quarterbacks to short-term deals, but Mayfield becomes their second player to receive a long-term extension in the past month.
