Boston Red Sox reliever Justin Slaten likely will miss the remainder of the season due to right elbow inflammation, according to interim manager Chad Tracy. Slaten, who is 2-4 with a 4.60 ERA in 36 appearances this season, visited Texas Rangers team physician Dr. Keith Meister, where degenerative changes in the flexor mass were detected. He is expected to receive a platelet-rich plasma injection and conclude his season.

Garrett Crochet, sidelined since late April with left shoulder inflammation and a subsequent lat strain, threw approximately 30 pitches before Tuesday's game against the Rangers. "Everything went well, so we'll wait and see on the next steps," Tracy said. Crochet, the American League Cy Young Award runner-up last season, was 3-3 with a 6.30 ERA in six starts before landing on the injured list. He could potentially pitch in relief if the Red Sox secure a playoff spot.

Right-handed reliever Tyron Guerrero is eligible for activation as early as Wednesday after being placed on the injured list on Sept. 1 due to right shoulder inflammation.
