Ohtani Progressing With Swing, No Live Pitching Yet

Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani is making a "productive" swing progression while on the injured list, according to manager Dave Roberts. Ohtani has not yet faced live pitching or the Trajekt machine, but Roberts said Friday the last three to five days have been encouraging and Ohtani is "in a good spot."

Ohtani rejoined the team after their seven-game road trip ended with the Dodgers clinching the National League West title for the 13th time in 14 years with a win at Cincinnati on Thursday. He was placed on the IL just before the trip due to lingering pain in his right biceps, left leg, and neck. Ohtani remained in Los Angeles for treatment and hit off a tee for the first time on Tuesday.

He is eligible to return Wednesday during the final home series against San Diego. Roberts said he would like Ohtani to get 10 to 12 at-bats against pitching before rejoining the lineup, emphasizing it depends on what makes Ohtani feel ready.
