A stuck pixel appears as a persistent colored dot (blue, green, red, or a mix) on a laptop screen, distinct from a dead pixel which remains black. Unlike dead pixels, stuck pixels still receive power but have a transistor stuck "on," preventing color changes. Common causes include physical damage (drops or excessive pressure), power surges, extreme temperatures, and aging hardware. Stuck pixels do not spread like an infection, though a manufacturing defect in transistors or sealing could cause clusters to appear. Warranty coverage often depends on the number of affected pixels; a single stuck pixel may not qualify, but a cluster might.

Three main DIY fixes exist, though physical methods risk further damage. First, try turning the device off for a day to reset the pixel. Software solutions like JScreen Fix (browser-based) or Pixel Healer (Windows) rapidly cycle colors to unstick the transistor; users with photosensitive epilepsy should exercise caution. The pressure method involves applying light pressure with a blunt, cloth-covered tool (like a pen cap) on the off screen, then powering on. The heat method uses a warm (not hot) cloth on the area for a few minutes before restarting. Caution is critical for the latter two to avoid panel damage.
