Bungie leaders say the studio is "not done with Destiny" and promised players that Marathon will keep growing and improving. Studio head Poria Torkan and Marathon general manager Josh Deane addressed recent shortcomings in a video and blog post.

Despite ending active development on Destiny 2 in May and layoffs in June, Bungie will revive content previously removed. It reverses the 2020 "vaulting" strategy that frustrated fans. "We cannot change the decision we made, but we can acknowledge its impact and do the work to make it right," the post reads. Bungie committed to restoring community trust with updates in coming months.

For Marathon, the team will "anchor on what makes Marathon special but evolve it beyond the genre constraints we placed on it," expanding it into a deeper survival experience on a dangerous alien world.

Former studio head Justin Truman stepped down over the summer. Fans will see what new leadership has in store.
