Apple TV+ has acquired the sci-fi thriller "Waffle House Index" in a seven-figure deal, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film stars Inde Navarrette, known for her role in "Obsession," who will also serve as executive producer. The story follows a Waffle House waitress as she endures a series of escalating disasters during her night shift—from an armed man to floods, killer crocodiles, nuclear explosions, and even aliens.

The title references the real-world Waffle House Index, an informal metric used to gauge storm severity: green means fully operational, yellow indicates limited service due to power or supply issues, and red signals closure. The film humorously imagines the chain staying open through extreme calamities until forced to shut. The project was part of the 2025 Black List, a survey of Hollywood's most liked unproduced screenplays.

With Apple's backing, the film is poised to blend disaster thrills with a satirical edge.
