In August, Fender released the $299 MIX wireless headphones. The over-ear headphones come with a replaceable battery and the FWD Tx USB-C wireless transmitter for low-latency, lossless connectivity. Fender MIX headphones also now include an iPhone app for tuning the experience.

The Fender Audio app for iPhone offers EQ presets and a custom five-band equalizer. This provides separate controls for low, low-mid, mid, high-mid, and high frequencies. That gives listeners a way to adjust the sound to their preferences directly from the iPhone app. The app also includes a battery indicator and configurable Home Screen widgets for quickly accessing device actions, including EQ settings.

As for the headphones themselves, MIX features 40mm graphene drivers, hybrid active noise cancellation, and Bluetooth 5.3. Fender rates battery life at up to 52 hours with ANC enabled or 100 hours with ANC turned off. The included USB-C transmitter supports separate modes for lossless audio at up to 24-bit/96kHz, low-latency listening, and Auracast broadcasting to multiple compatible devices.

In my listening so far, MIX sounds great with active noise cancellation enabled. Switching to Ambient Sound, Fender’s transparency mode, sounds like a drop in audio quality to my ears, at least over Bluetooth without the adapter. The USB-C transmitter tucks neatly behind an ear cushion when you don’t need it. The Fender Audio app is available on the App Store now.
