Apple took home the most Emmy trophies this year with 28 awards, breaking the two-decade dominance of HBO, Netflix, and FX. The comedy series “Widow’s Bay” won 14 Emmys, including best comedy, setting a record for most wins by a comedy series. Creator Katie Dippold praised Apple for letting the team “do this weird show.” Apple’s entry into Hollywood began in 2017 with project acquisitions and launched Apple TV+ in 2019.

Despite initial skepticism, the company has persisted, with executives Eddy Cue and new CEO John Ternus affirming long-term commitment. Apple also saw success with “Pluribus” and “Slow Horses.” While Apple TV+ remains less watched than competitors, its spending continues amid industry-wide cuts. Richard Weitz of WME Group noted Apple’s willingness to invest long-term in artists stands out during a time of profound change in entertainment.

The Emmys eligibility pool declined 39% from four years ago, yet Apple continues to invest in high-budget, star-driven projects.
