Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS), leading the country's main opposition bloc, has called for a nationwide review of existing gambling licenses and a halt on issuing new permits. The party, which governs four states including Kelantan and Terengganu under the Perikatan Nasional coalition, argues that states should have autonomy to decide on gambling permits. This resolution was passed at PAS's annual general meeting, reflecting the party's broader effort to address social ills.

The call for reform follows the Federal Court's recent dismissal of the Kedah state government's appeal against a ruling overturning its ban on non-renewal of lottery outlet business licenses. In addition to gambling policy, PAS also approved a resolution urging the government to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry into a so-called corporate mafia issue involving law enforcement agencies.
