Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the country has created a board to oversee the liquidation of investment funds to be wound down. The board will be under Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz, Erdogan said in Ankara following a meeting with economic officials and market regulators.

“Key decisions were taken at Tuesday’s meeting and a road map was set,” Erdogan said, adding he’s tasked the State Supervisory Council, or DDK, on the issue. Turkey’s financial markets have been gripped by turmoil this month after a regulatory crackdown on illiquid stock trading triggered severe market declines and a rush of outflows.

Two of the asset managers failed to meet redemption requests, prompting regulators to order the liquidation of 131 funds managed by seven portfolio companies and about $20 billion in assets. Authorities have also started an investigation into some of the asset managers, arrested or detained several financial executives related to the turmoil.

The crisis also reached ruling AK Party’s leadership, with Deputy Chair Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya stepping down from her position after allegations about suspicious stock trades. “We part ways with those who make mistakes and move forward stronger,” Erdogan said. On Monday, he also said the problems are confined to a limited part of capital markets and have not spread to the broader financial system.
