Challenger Ltd., an Australian investment manager, has voiced support for increased transparency in the private credit sector, responding to regulatory concerns following the collapse of Sydney property developer Bathla Group. CEO Nick Hamilton, a veteran of the funds management industry, endorsed the Australian Securities & Investments Commission's (ASIC) request for more detailed information on asset valuations and risk modeling from fund firms. Challenger, which manages A$19.6 billion ($14.2 billion) in fixed income and cash, has significant exposure to private credit.

Hamilton emphasized the importance of robust disclosure to maintain investor confidence and market stability. The move aligns with a broader industry trend toward greater scrutiny of private markets, as regulators worldwide seek to mitigate systemic risks. By backing these measures, Challenger aims to set a standard for best practices in the sector, ensuring that private credit remains a viable and secure investment avenue.
