OpenAI announced a new Epic electronic health record integration and Healthcare Public Data plugin for ChatGPT for Healthcare, connecting authorized patient context and nine official public sources in a governed workspace. The Epic integration allows clinicians to bring patient information — including appointment notes, lab results, medications, and specialist documentation — directly into ChatGPT. Clinicians can ask questions such as what has changed since a patient's last visit or which recent lab results to review, with ChatGPT summarizing developments and linking back to supporting chart data. The integration supports two experiences: EHR context in ChatGPT for reviewing patient history and preparing for appointments, and ChatGPT embedded directly into the EHR layout for AI-assisted workflows without leaving the patient chart.

The Healthcare Public Data plugin adds structured connectors to nine authoritative sources: ClinicalTrials.gov, CMS Coverage, RxNorm, DailyMed, PubMed, and others. Teams can query specific records, fields, identifiers, and versions across these datasets simultaneously. Use cases include research teams comparing trial eligibility criteria on ClinicalTrials.gov, pharmacy teams verifying latest medication labels on DailyMed, and population health teams combining research, active trials, and Medicare coverage for program planning.

OpenAI partners with hundreds of physicians across 60 countries, 49 languages, and 26 medical specialties to evaluate model responses. To date, these physicians have reviewed more than 700,000 responses reflecting real-world healthcare questions.
