Welsh bragging rights and a place in the World Grand Prix semi-finals will be on the line when Gerwyn Price faces Jonny Clayton in Leicester on Friday night. World No 4 Price leads the PDC Order of Merit by one spot over his compatriot and World Cup of Darts partner, but a victory for Clayton could see him surpass the Iceman as Wales' top-ranked player if he goes on to win the tournament. Price leads their head-to-head 30-15 and won their most recent meeting in Amsterdam, though Clayton famously beat him 5-1 in the 2021 World Grand Prix final.
Both players have advanced comfortably, with Price yet to drop a set and Clayton overcoming Krzysztof Ratajski and Wessel Nijman. The all-Welsh clash is part of a quarter-final lineup that also features Luke Humphries versus surprise package Niels Zonneveld, alongside matches between James Wade vs Gian van Veen and Nathan Aspinall vs Ryan Joyce. Humphries, the second seed, is warning against underestimating Zonneveld, the lowest-ranked player remaining at world No 35, citing the shock of Mike De Decker's 2024 final run.
The Dutchman has already eliminated Josh Rock and Gary Anderson, proving he cannot be taken lightly in Leicester.
