Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has raised doubts about Ferrari's ability to sustain their aggressive development program through the 2026 season. Speaking after the Austrian Grand Prix, Wolff suggested the Italian team should be 'running out of money soon' under Formula 1's $215m budget cap, questioning how they continue introducing major aerodynamic packages at nearly every race.

Ferrari sits second in the Constructors' Championship behind Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton's Barcelona victory the only loss for the Silver Arrows this season. The Scuderia brought eight new aerodynamic components to Spain, followed by three in Monaco and four in Austria, demonstrating relentless development despite regulatory constraints. Wolff noted Mercedes has only introduced four changes since their major Canadian Grand Prix update, highlighting the disparity in approach.

Beyond chassis work, Ferrari deployed their first revised engine under the ADUO system in Austria, one of three manufacturers granted two upgrade opportunities. Mercedes received just one engine development slot for 2026, though Wolff confirmed no upgrades are currently planned.
