Wimbledon Expands Video Tech to Six Courts

The All England Club has confirmed video review technology will debut on six Wimbledon courts starting June 29. Players in singles matches can challenge specific umpire rulings regarding double bounces, net contact, and hindrance calls. This expansion follows last year's introduction of Electronic Line Calling, which faced criticism after a high-profile technical error disrupted play.

The technology allows players to review judgement calls either on point-ending plays or immediately after points. Unlike some tournaments, Wimbledon won't limit the number of reviews a player can request. Visual indicators for live Electronic Line Calling will appear on all scoreboards after fans struggled to hear automated calls during last year's tournament.

Women's doubles competition will commence one day later than previously scheduled, now starting on Thursday, July 2. The finals weekend structure remains unchanged from 2025, with doubles finals beginning at 1pm followed by singles finals at 4pm on the second Saturday and Sunday respectively. These adjustments reflect Wimbledon's ongoing evolution.

Chief Executive Sally Bolton emphasized the tournament's commitment to enhancement, noting these technological improvements alongside new dining options and accessibility measures. Wimbledon continues balancing tradition with innovation as it seeks to deliver the best possible experience for players and spectators alike. The expanded technology represents another step in the tournament's modernization journey.
