Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik defeated Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli 6-3 1-6 [10-6] to win the US Open mixed doubles championship and the $1m grand prize on Wednesday night. The Czech pair rallied from 3-0 and 8-5 down, saving two match points to defeat Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev in the semi-final. In the final, facing Indian Wells champions Bencic and Cobolli, Muchova and Mensik delivered in the second-match tie-break to secure the title.

Muchova joked that the matching outfits made the difference, while Mensik sealed victory with a 131-mph ace. The champions also defeated Kristina Mladenovic and Marcelo Arevalo, and Emma Navarro and Tommy Paul en route to the final. Outside of the final, sets were played to only four games.

For Bencic, it was a maiden Grand Slam final at senior level. The 16-team draw began on Tuesday in the second year of the tournament's revamped format, aimed at drawing bigger crowds before the singles main draw.
