England boss Thomas Tuchel remains "100 per cent" committed to his role despite criticism following the World Cup semi-final loss to Argentina. Tuchel has hit back at accusations of negative tactics, instead pointing to a perceived weakness in English football's "DNA" that hinders players' ability to retain possession under pressure.

Tuchel argued that in the match against Argentina, "no structure in the world could have helped us" due to the team becoming too passive and lacking physicality. He believes the dramatic swing in momentum after conceding the goal, marked by a sharp drop in possession, highlights a fundamental issue. "I think ball possession plays a crucial role; it's maybe not in our DNA like it is in our Spanish DNA or in our Argentinian-Brazilian DNA, to take the ball and control the game with the ball," he stated.

Despite leaving technically gifted players like Phil Foden out of the squad and substituting Anthony Gordon, Tuchel defended his tactical decisions. He explained that switching to a back five was intended to increase activity and prevent gaps, not to become more passive. He also cited physical struggles due to tournament conditions, including heat and altitude, as contributing factors to the team's fatigue. Nevertheless, Tuchel is confident England can still win a major tournament under his management, believing there is "an extra level that we need to conquer."
