Ben Stokes starred again with bat and ball as Durham boosted their Rothesay County Championship promotion hopes with a crushing 338-run win at Derbyshire with a day to spare. The former England captain followed up his first-half century and two wickets by scoring an unbeaten 66 before taking 5-17 as Derbyshire were skittled out for 84 while chasing an unlikely 423. After resuming on 127-6, Derbyshire fell short again, with Durham’s Matthew Potts finishing with 5-46 in the first innings and adding 3-22 later.

Durham opener Ben Mc Kinney then made a brilliant 140 off 162 deliveries and Will Rhodes made 52 before Stokes’ quickfire knock saw the visitors declare on 295-6. Stokes then took three wickets in four balls as Derbyshire's second innings capitulated.

In Division One, Nottinghamshire wrapped up a 145-run win against Surrey despite Ollie Pope's 111, while Warwickshire completed a thrilling one-wicket win against Sussex at Edgbaston to climb to second place. Elsewhere, Essex batter Charlie Allison made 105 not out against Somerset, and Northamptonshire declared on 298-4 to leave Lancashire needing 422 for victory. Middlesex reached 184-4 in their second innings, requiring 170 runs to win against Kent.
