Southampton faces FA probe over Spygate scandal

The FA has launched its own investigation into Southampton following the Spygate scandal that rocked the club. The governing body confirmed it will assess evidence and could charge individuals with bringing the game into disrepute. This comes after the EFL lacked power to charge individuals during its earlier hearing and could only punish the club itself.

Southampton was expelled from the Championship play-offs after a member of staff was accused of spying on Middlesbrough's training session days before a play-off semi-final. The club's appeal against that decision was dismissed. Middlesbrough will now face Hull City in the Championship play-off final on Saturday at 3.30pm.

The FA stated it will not comment further until evidence has been assessed. Some Southampton staff have already admitted taking part in the spying operation and could face disciplinary action from the club. Middlesbrough will play Hull City in Saturday's final while Southampton's season unravels under the weight of the scandal.
