Sonny Baker continued his stellar County Championship season with a five-for against Somerset, but Hampshire fell to a tense two-wicket defeat. The 23-year-old finished with figures of 5-62 from 17 overs in the second innings, though Tom Abell's unbeaten century guided table-toppers Somerset to victory at Southampton.

Hampshire captain Ben Brown was full of praise for his young seamer, highlighting his devastating pace and movement. "He's bowling absolute rockets at the moment. Almost every spell gets up to that sort of 90 mph mark," Brown said. "The ball to Gregory moved back a mile. It's brilliant bowling, and for tailenders, it's a nightmare to face."

This was Baker's third career five-for, taking his season tally to 13 wickets at an impressive average of 21.84. His red-hot form could earn him a first England Test call-up against New Zealand at Lord's on June 4. Baker received a one-year central contract from England in November, signaling he remains firmly on selectors' radar despite a difficult international debut last summer against South Africa.
