Dalton Smith has been forced to withdraw from his WBC super-lightweight title defense against Alberto Puello due to a training injury. The scheduled June 6 bout in Sheffield would have marked Smith's first title defense since capturing the belt with a fifth-round knockout victory over Subriel Matias in January.

The 28-year-old British champion extended his perfect record to 19-0 with that Brooklyn victory, despite facing challenges from Matias' uppercuts and combinations early in the fight. Smith became one of five current male British world champions with that win, joining an elite group of boxers.

With Smith's fight canceled, Galal Yafai's WBC and WBA world flyweight unification championship challenge against Ricardo Sandoval will now headline at the Utilita Arena. The change creates a new main event for Sheffield boxing fans while leaving Smith's title defense timeline uncertain after the setback in training camp.
