Robinson eyes England recall as McCullum and Key signal support

Sussex captain Ollie Robinson revealed that England head coach Brendon McCullum and managing director Rob Key have been in touch about a possible Test return. The 32‑year‑old last wore the England shirt in February 2024, after 20 caps and 76 wickets, and lost his central contract in October following a 4‑1 series loss in India.

County form and England’s struggling pace attack after the 4‑1 Ashes defeat have prompted the outreach. Robinson said a text from McCullum at the season’s start reminded him the door was still ajar, while Key urged him to “take wickets, knock the door down.” Fitness woes and back spasms curtailed his previous Test stint, but he claims a clearer mind and renewed vigor now.

England will host the New Zealand series from June 4, offering Robinson a chance to convert the encouragement into a recall. He stressed that performance, not past grievances, will dictate selection and expressed confidence that his improved conditioning and mental reset position him for a comeback.
