Rangers negotiate Danny Röhl exit as Salzburg push for new boss

Red Bull Salzburg have opened negotiations with Rangers to secure head coach Danny Röhl after less than a year at Ibrox. The 37‑year‑old, who replaced Russell Martin in October, guided the Scottish side to a third‑place finish and a brief title challenge before slipping in the final months. Rangers reportedly seek a seven‑figure compensation fee to release him.

Röhl remains under contract for two more seasons, but Rangers have been reviewing options since May despite earlier assurances of his future. Ibrox’s summer overhaul, led by CEO Jim Gillespie and technical director Dan Purdy, secured Scotland international Lawrence Shankland on a two‑year deal after a clause triggered his exit from Hearts. Rangers finished third season but exited the cups in the quarter‑final and semi‑final stages.

If Salzburg meet the agreed terms, they would replace Daniel Beichler with a coach who lifted Rangers into the title race and achieved a third‑place finish. Losing Röhl could stall Rangers’ squad refresh and force further managerial changes, while Salzburg would gain a manager with Bundesliga and Champions League experience.
