Rangers have labelled the racist abuse sent to Djeidi Gassama and Emmanuel Fernandez as 'unacceptable' following Sunday's draw at Livingston. The duo received messages on their Instagram accounts, prompting the club to report the comments to Meta and Police Scotland. The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has also condemned the 'disgraceful' online abuse directed at the Ibrox pair.

In a statement, Rangers emphasized their 'immediate priority' is the well-being of the players involved, confirming they are in direct contact with Gassama and Fernandez. The club expressed pride that the players 'stood up for themselves by highlighting this vile abuse.' The SPFL joined Rangers in 'wholeheartedly condemning the appalling and cowardly online racist abuse,' pledging full support for any steps taken by authorities to identify the individuals involved.

The accounts sending the abuse appear to be anonymous and unconnected to the club, though Rangers stressed this does not lessen the seriousness of the incident. Many supporters have already reached out with messages of support, which the club welcomed as reflecting what Rangers stands for: 'pride in the shirt, respect for those who wear it, and a commitment to stand together.'
