England forward Owen Trout served a one-month ban last season after testing positive for cannabis. The 27-year-old Leigh Leopards star was sidelined from May 16 to June 27 following an adverse finding after a match against Wakefield Trinity in late March. Trout admitted to smoking a joint and consuming a cannabis gummy in the week prior to that game.
He was formally charged on July 20 but the ban was adjudged served from May 22 to June 21. Trout completed an approved 'substance of abuse' treatment programme. He played 26 times in his final season for Leigh.
Leopards head coach Adrian Lam had previously stated the club was supporting him through the process on a week-to-week basis. Trout is set to join NRL side Cronulla Sharks from the 2027 season onwards.
