Jens Berthel Askou has left Motherwell to manage Toulouse after a debut season that secured a fourth-place finish and a return to European competition. The Dane capped his campaign with a victory at Hibernian, breaking defensive club records while playing an expansive brand of football that briefly put the Steelmen in title contention.

Prior to Scotland, Askou worked as an assistant at Copenhagen and Sparta Prague, plus managerial spells in Sweden, the Faroe Islands, and Denmark. His approach attracted interest from several clubs including Celtic, but the Ligue 1 move proved too compelling to resist once Carles Martinez Novell departed Toulouse.

All Motherwell backroom staff remain at Fir Park, where chairman Kyrk Macmillan acknowledged the club had agreed from the start that Askou could pursue opportunities elsewhere. Crowds are 40% higher this season and over 20 first-team players are under contract heading into the new campaign.
