Brendon McCullum said he 'would love to carry on' as England head coach despite a difficult winter that ended with a seven-run loss to India in the T20 World Cup semi-finals. The team fell short while chasing 254, with Jacob Bethell's superb century ultimately in vain. McCullum praised the 'mental fortitude' of white-ball captain Harry Brook and the team's toughness in the defeat.

Looking back on the winter as a whole, which included a 4-1 Ashes drubbing by Australia, McCullum suggested 'hard conversations' were needed about England's playing style. He admitted the Test team didn't play the aggressive brand of cricket they had previously championed. 'Did we play the style of play we wanted to take down to Australia or did we not? If we're being honest with ourselves, I would probably say we didn't,' McCullum acknowledged.

McCullum highlighted the progress in white-ball cricket, noting wins in Sri Lanka and reaching the T20 World Cup semi-finals. He commended Brook's leadership following his nightclub incident and praised emerging players like Bethell, Tom Banton, and Sam Curran. The coach emphasized the need to reflect on what worked and what didn't before deciding on his future, though he expressed a strong desire to continue leading the team across all formats.
