Manchester United have secured centre‑back Harry Maguire on a fresh one-year contract with an option for a further twelve months. The 33‑year‑old, whose previous deal expired at season’s end, becomes the club’s longest‑serving defender with an eighth season at Old Trafford. Maguire’s signing follows an England recall for the March internationals, where he featured in both matches.

Since Michael Carrick took over in January, Maguire has started every league game, helping United lose only one of ten and climb to third place. His defensive solidity featured in a late winner against Liverpool and crucial performances in back‑to‑back victories over Manchester City and Arsenal. The former Hull player has amassed 266 appearances and 17 goals for the club.

Director of football Jason Wilcox praised Maguire’s leadership, calling him “the ultimate professional” whose experience anchors United’s young squad. The defender arrived from Leicester in August 2019 for a record £80m fee, a sum still unrivalled for a back‑line player. With his contract now extended, United retain a key figure as they push for trophies. His presence also eases the integration of emerging talents like Kobbie Mainoo.
