Harry Maguire has been shockingly omitted from England's World Cup squad despite his recent form. The Manchester United center-back expressed being "gutted" by the decision, posting on social media: "I was confident I could have played a major part this summer for my country."

Maguire, with 66 England caps, had started 14 of United's last 16 Premier League games and impressed in March internationals. Manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed seeing four center-backs ahead of him: Ezri Konsa, Marc Guehi, Trevoh Chalobah, and John Stones, despite praising Maguire's "solid, solid central-defender play."

Sky Sports' Rob Dorsett called the decision "surprising" given Maguire's experience and form. With England's World Cup opener against Croatia on June 17, Maguire's exclusion leaves Tuchel with questions about his defensive options as the squad prepares to depart for the United States next week.
