Leeds United are close to agreeing a club-record deal with Manchester City for goalkeeper James Trafford. Sky Sports News understands the proposed transfer for the England international is worth at least £40m plus add-ons, a record for an English goalkeeper.

Leeds' previous record signing was Georginio Rutter from Hoffenheim for around £35.5m in January 2023. Finding a new first-choice goalkeeper is a priority this summer after Karl Darlow's exit and an unconvincing debut season for Lucas Perri.

Perri, dropped by boss Daniel Farke last season, and third-choice Alex Cairns are the only senior goalkeepers currently on Leeds' books. There is potential for Perri to depart amid interest from Torino, but Leeds are unwilling to part with the Brazilian until they have brought in at least one goalkeeper.
