UEFA has appointed an ethics and disciplinary inspector to investigate the alleged racial abuse, a process Sky Sports News understands could take up to three weeks. Kompany criticized Mourinho for attacking Vinicius' character rather than addressing the serious allegation. He questioned Mourinho's use of Eusebio's legacy to argue Benfica couldn't be racist, noting the racial discrimination black players faced in the 1960s that many had to endure silently.

The Bayern Munich manager referenced Mourinho's past incidents where he could've faced discrimination, including his provocative celebrations and clashes with officials. Kompany stated, "You cannot be a bad person and have all the ex-players you've had talk so positively about you," while maintaining Mourinho made a serious error in his response.
