England head coach Steve Borthwick and captain Maro Itoje have rejected claims of a squad rift following a newspaper article questioning team unity. Speaking after Sunday's 45-22 Nations Championship victory over Australia at Twickenham, Borthwick called the report "not an environment I recognise." The article had alleged players lost faith in Borthwick after a tough summer campaign, including a defeat by South Africa, and objected to his treatment. Jamie George previously called the timing "shocking," saying players were "hurt." Borthwick noted that several predecessors reached out for support, advising him to "focus on the rugby." Itoje passionately defended his coach, stating the squad has full support.
The win marks England's second consecutive Nations Championship victory. Henry Pollock also starred on the wing in the winning performance.
