Ahead of the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, experts Declan Rix and Sam Boswell discussed the nine-runner field on the "Weekend Winners" podcast. Last year's victor, Calandagan, returns to defend his title against rivals including Kalpana and Japan's Masquerade Ball. Masquerade Ball, seeking revenge after a narrow defeat in the Japan Cup, faces a strong challenge from Aidan O'Brien's contingent, featuring Irish Derby hero Benvenuto Cellini and Minnie Hauk.

Rix noted that last year's race tactics favored Calandagan, but anticipates a faster pace this year, potentially testing his stamina. Despite a recent poor run at Epsom, Rix still considers Calandagan the best horse in the race, noting his improved form this season.

Boswell, however, leans towards Masquerade Ball, particularly at odds of 9/2. While acknowledging Calandagan's suitability to the track and ground, Boswell highlights Masquerade Ball's potential and the trainer's enthusiasm. He advises taking Masquerade Ball if odds of 4/1 or better are available, despite the Japanese horse's unfamiliarity with the Ascot track.
